NONANTUM
Nonantum, (from a Native American Algonquian word meaning “blessing or prayer”) is sometimes known as “The Lake” or “Silver Lake,” although the lake’s namesake was filled in and built up starting in the 1930’s. Nonantum boasts a large Italian population and its restaurants and eateries reflect that heritage. Surrounded by Watertown, Newtonville, West Newton and Newton Corner, Nonantum is one of the smallest villages of Newton, and also one of the quietest.
