🌿 ABOUT JANET PORCARO

A Newton Neighbor, Connector, and Realtor® With Heart

A Love of Houses

I’ve loved houses for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Newton, my sister and I spent countless afternoons in the back of our family’s station wagon, winding through neighborhoods, pointing out porches we adored and imagining the lives unfolding behind each front door. She became a Realtor®, too. Some things just run in your blood.

That early curiosity grew into a 20-year career rooted in this community. I’ve helped people find their place in Newton, not just a house, but a neighborhood, a rhythm, a sense of belonging. Real estate is the work I do. Connection is why I do it.

High-Tech Tools, High-Touch Service

Before real estate, I spent 16 years at Harvard University as a technology trainer and consultant. That experience shaped the way I work today: organized, thoughtful, systems‑minded, and always looking for the smartest, most efficient way to support my clients. I love pairing high‑tech tools with high‑touch service; it’s where I thrive.

Rooted in the Community

I also channel that community spirit through two organizations I’m deeply proud of. In 2009, I co-founded OurNewton.org, a platform that shares local news, events, and neighborhood stories, a passion project that grew into a beloved resource keeping Newton neighbors connected. And I serve on the board of Spark Newton, the nonprofit that has been bringing free arts, culture, and public art to Newton, the force behind WinterFEST, the Fall Village Concert Series, the Linda Plaut Newton Festival of the Arts, and the free, joyful, only-in-Newton moments that bring neighbors together all year long.

I’ve served in leadership roles across Newton schools and nonprofits, as PTO Co-President at three schools, member of the Newton PTO Council Board, and a volunteer with the Newton Youth Commission. One of my favorite projects was piloting a Teen Cooking Program at the Newton Teen Center. Watching young people find confidence in the kitchen? Pure joy.

Recognized — But Not for the Reasons You’d Expect

My work in real estate has been recognized with multiple production awards, including the Good Neighbor Award from the Greater Boston Association of Realtors®. But the recognition that means the most to me comes from clients who tell me they felt supported, understood, and cared for during one of life’s biggest transitions.
