Life is More Than a Beach in Barnstable on Cape Cod!
Fade out–the old image of the Cape with rough clam shacks and motel row commercialism. Fade in–the new hip Cape Cod with its famous shores, and the towns, verdant landscapes with a lively community proud of the Cape’s historic significance. I visited Barnstable recently to acquire some documents at the Barnstable District Court. I found a bucolic town that made me want to linger. The town of Barnstable is made up of seven villages including Hyannis, which is the business capitol for Barnstable County, and Barnstable Village, which is the address of the courthouse. Barnstable is beautiful and the grounds around the courthouse are dotted with statues, cannons, and other objects of note. Enchanted with this place, I happened upon the Sturgis Library where I admired the amazing whale mobile. There is so much to do in Barnstable, for example, The History Along Route 6A event—ten days of great free and low-cost historical and cultural events in Barnstable and Yarmouth Port. Check out the schedule. Aside from the educational opportunities, there are lots of other things to do, great restaurants, and beautiful shops. I stopped in to the Neutral Territory Gift Shop and was tempted by the fabulous silver earrings and an amazing mermaid carving. I plan on returning soon. I’ll will be sure to visit the Cape Cod Organic Farm where I hope to find local produce to go with fresh local seafood. I love the Cape and it is getting better every day!
